Resolve Photo started in 2009 by two people just trying to solve one simple problem: to find a good commercial print. As photographers, founders Costas Costoulas and Jamie Tilston were both dissatisfied with the process of ordering a print; they simply wanted to speak to the people operating the machines. For some reason, this was an impossible task! So, they purchased a printer and printed their first successful exhibition for Jamie. Word spread, they bought more printers, moved out of the basement and into a small studio, and it’s been growing ever since.

We now occupy a 2300 sq. ft. studio space just outside of downtown and have four staff who multi-task like champs (eating sandwiches while working is a specialty) and occasional VIPs who step in to help out. We’re proud of the space we’ve built and it’s constantly changing and improving. Our goal is to be a full service shop that can help you with digital file and colour management all the way through to presentation. We have a client list that goes beyond just the home and office and includes galleries, museums, studios, government, universities, and corporations. No matter how big or small the project, we take a lot of care to walk through every step with you and make sure the final product is exactly as you imagined it.

We offer a huge selection of in-stock fine art papers. We also know every paper we stock inside and out, upside down and backwards, because we print on them ourselves (but also because we’re pretty nerdy about paper). This means we know what paper is going to be best for your images. Our philosophy is to show your work at its best. Our large format inkjet printers can go up to 60 x 120” on many of our in-stock papers so you can go really big with that epic mountain scene you love. On top of all our exceptional colour printing we also offer printing with a specialty black and white inkset (K7 = 7 types of black ink) for crazy beautiful monochrome prints.

Costas Costoulas, Founder

Costas started Resolve Photo back in 2009 with Jamie Tilston so suffice it to say he’s pretty passionate about the shop. He tries to escape to the backcountry as much as possible with is wife, Kirsten, but can also be found hiking, cycle touring, or skiing in winter. Costas is very involved in Calgary’s art scene and contributes time and knowledge to several artist run centres & photography programs.

Royce Howland, Master Printer & General Manager

Royce Howland is one hundred percent photography one hundred percent of the time. If he’s not printing, he’s shooting or teaching or writing or testing new papers or making paper profiles or… you get the picture. The other hundred percent of the time he loves to hang out with family, and especially to travel with his wife. They have a particular love of Iceland and the American desert southwest. He’s also involved with outreach programs promoting photography as an art form. Oh, did we mention he’s an exhibiting artist? (We have no idea when he sleeps. No, for real, we really don’t.)
