Call for submissions for ALTERNATIVE ALBERTA (working title)
A group exhibition in Exposure Photography Festival 2017

Exhibition dates: February 2 – March 30th, 2017
Opening Night: Friday February 10th, 2017

Alberta is often portrayed through grand mountains, rolling foothills, cowboys and horses, and oil. But is there an alternative narrative about the province? This curated group exhibition seeks to look at Alberta differently, through overlooked images that paint an unexpected picture of the land, people, and places that we occupy.

We invite photo-based artists to submit work to us that challenges the stereotypes about Alberta and offers an alternative. These images could be of wildly unexpected scenes in the Prairies or just subtle changes to something familiar, but they should challenge what we expect of an exhibition about Alberta, its landscape, and its people.

DEADLINE for submission: November 15th, 2016

Submission guidelines:

  • Each artist should submit 3 images that strongly represent the theme of “alternative Alberta.” 1024 px on the long edge. JPEG format.
  • Files should be named #_FirstnameLastname_TitleofArtwork and correspond to an image list with a brief explanation of each image and how it fits into the theme.
  • Images and file list (PDF) should be uploaded to new.resolvephoto.ca/upload with a subject line of “Alternative Alberta.”

Chosen artists will work with the Resolve team to print the work in-house as best suited to the chosen image(s). Work will be chosen and curated by Costas Costoulas with support from the Resolve team.
