EDGES IN ART REPRODUCTION

SHOULD WE CAPTURE YOUR ART WORKS EDGES?

One of the first choices in art reproduction is whether to include the edges of the paper or crop them out. It's a visual decision that affects how the artwork looks on screen, in print, or when framed.

Option 1: Edges Included (Full Artwork Capture)

Description:
We photograph the entire artwork—deckled edges, corners, and all. You’ll see everything that was on the copy stand.

Best for:

  • Preserving the look of the original sheet
  • Highlighting paper texture or shape
  • Online display, archives, or documentation

Option 2: Cropped (Just the Artwork)

Description:
We crop to the edge of the painted or printed area, removing the paper border for a clean, rectangular result.

Best for:

  • Print-ready files
  • Artwork that doesn’t rely on paper edges for context
  • A polished, modern look

Choosing the Right Background

Options:

  • White (default): clean and neutral
  • Black: high contrast and dramatic
  • Gray or custom: chosen for your piece
